From Disbelief to Proclamation
FORT RILEY, Kan. —
Jennifer Gibson used to be skeptical about kids' food allergies. That was before her own daughter went into anaphylactic reaction triggered by a homemade cashew beverage. Now they can't leave their home without an EpiPen at arm's length.
She soon realized that in spite of the growing number of youth who are diagnosed with food allergies, most people are still uninformed about the "Big Nine" and how they can trigger a mild to near-fatal reaction. To raise awareness about food allergies, Jennifer sent a request to the Kansas governor's office to sign a proclamation. Here she displays the results of her request. May 14 - 20, 2023, is Food Allergy Awareness Week.
