Getting Care FAQs
How do I find a provider on the network?
Primary Care:
The patient contacts Irwin Army Community Hospital’s appointment line (239-DOCS) to request a primary care appointment. If there is a primary care appointment available at IACH, the patient will be scheduled accordingly.
If there are no appointments available, the patient can receive care at a network Urgent Care center or request a referral to a network primary care provider. If the patient chooses to see a primary care network provider, the Referral Management Office will put in a referral and provide information to the patient on what provider to call to schedule the appointment.
The authorization for the network care will include an initial office visit plus 5 follow-up appointments. Additional care beyond the 5 follow-ups must be authorized with a new referral which can be submitted by the network provider through their Health Net Federal Services Provider Portal.

Specialty Care:
When a patient is seen by an Irwin Army Community Hospital provider and he/she determines the patient needs specialty care, that provider will put in a referral. If the care is available at IACH the patient will be scheduled with a specialty care appointment at IACH.
If there is no availability at IACH, the referral will be deferred to the network. Once it is processed through Health Net Federal Services, the patient will be notified via the TRICARE-West.com patient portal of the provider’s name, address and phone number.
If the patient wants to change to a different provider, he/she can contact Health Net Federal Services to make this request. The Health Net Federal Services Provider Directory is located on the TRICARE-West.com. Beneficiaries can search for a provider by the specialty listed on the referral and authorization.

How do I get PHARM if I am on the network?
Patients who receive a prescription by a network clinic or provider can bring the hard copy prescription to Irwin Army Community Hospital pharmacy to be filled.
Some network providers can electronically send a prescription to IACH’s pharmacy so that the patient can pick up the prescription at the hospital’s pharmacy. Active Duty patients will need to pick up their prescriptions at Farrelly Health Clinic Pharmacy.
How do I get notified that I am being brought back to the hospital?
Your referral to the network is for an initial evaluation and 5 follow ups. Additional care beyond the 5 follow-ups must be authorized with a new referral which can be submitted by the network provider through their Health Net Federal Services Provider Portal.
The request for additional care will be processed by the Irwin Army Community Hospital Referral Management Office to determine if capability is available at IACH or if the care needs to be continued in the network.
Do I have to return to the hospital for care if I prefer to stay with my network provider?
Yes. As a TRICARE Prime beneficiary, if the medical care is available at Irwin Army Community Hospital, and we have the capacity and capability, the patient will be seen at Irwin Army Community Hospital.
Who do I contact if I have additional questions?
You can visit with a benefits counselor located across the hospital chapel or call (785) 239-7968 or 240-7297 for assistance with TRICARE, network, referrals, or other matters related to your care.
