Laboratory

The IACH Laboratory is responsible for providing responsive, high-quality laboratory testing in support of patient care. The Lab offers services through scheduled appointments and walk-in basis. Patients are advised to schedule a lab appointment to avoid long wait times.

No orders are required for pregnancy (HCG), STIs, or MEDPROS tests once every 30 days.

Schedule Lab Appointments Online Starting Aug. 1

A pilot program offering online scheduling for lab appointments at Irwin Army Community Hospital begins Aug. 1, 2024, and will run for 90 days to ensure a smooth and convenient experience for patients. Please visit the Digital Appointment Portal, select Kansas for the Geographic Location, and Fort Riley for the installation.

Please note that walk-in appointments are still available, however, appointments take priority over walk ins. Walk-in patients may experience longer wait times.

Before Booking an Appointment:

 1. Lab Orders Must Be in MHS GENESIS:

  • Ensure your lab orders are placed in MHS GENESIS by your provider.
  • If your orders are not in MHS GENESIS when you arrive, we will not be able to serve you. Message your provider’s office via the Patient Portal to have lab orders placed.
 2. HCG, STI, or MEDPRO Appointments:
  • No provider orders are required for these tests (authorized once every 30 days).
  • When booking an appointment, enter the testing type in the Primary Care Manager line (e.g., "HCG," "STI," "MEDPRO Update").
 3. Off-Post Provider Scripts:
  • Call the lab prior to booking an appointment to verify that your orders are on file. Enter “outside provider orders” as a comment in the Primary Care Manager line when booking.
  • Patients bringing their off-post provider orders to the appointment do not need to call the lab prior but must bring the lab order and present it to the phlebotomist.
 4. Glucose Tolerance Testing:
  • Glucose tolerance tests (1-, 2-, and 3-hour) cannot be booked online. Contact the lab to schedule these tests.
Arriving for Your Appointment:
 1. Scheduled Appointment Ticket:
  • Upon arrival, take a scheduled appointment ticket. This confirms your presence for the appointment.
  • Failure to take the scheduled appointment ticket may result in missing your appointment.
 2. Arrival Timing:
  • Arriving early does not guarantee you will be seen before your scheduled time.
  • Do not check in more than 10 minutes prior to your appointment.
 3. Correct Ticket Name:
  • Ensure the ticket from the kiosk is in the scheduled patient’s name.
  • For appointments booked for children, the ticket should be taken under the child's name, not the parents.
 4. Late Arrivals:
  • Appointments are 15 minutes long. If you are 5 minutes or more late, you will need to reschedule or take a walk-in ticket.
  • Walk-in patients may experience longer wait times.
