Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

The Intensive Outpatient Program offers intermediate level of behavioral health care to reduce psychiatric admissions, build psychological health, and promote healing and resiliency during life circumstances and stressors for service members. IOP provides a supportive environment while teaching life enrichment skills using evidence-based treatment.

IOP is designed to empower service members with resiliency skills for overcoming the challenges of a psychiatric diagnosis such as depression, bipolar, anxiety, or post-traumatic stress disorder. Service members start rebuilding their personal lives and mending important family ties without leaving home. They establish a foundation for long-term recovery support in their unit and local community, instead of waiting until they return from living away in a distant facility.

Treatment services are delivered primarily through group therapy, and service members continue to engage in individual therapy on a weekly basis with their behavioral health providers while in IOP. Groups generally do not exceed 10 to 15 service members.

The Behavioral Health IOP focuses on four primary areas: mindfulness skills, distress tolerance skills, emotional regulation skills, and interpersonal effectiveness skills. Everyone in IOP is also introduced to the following areas: pain management, sleep hygiene, yoga, and Bal-A-Vis X.
