The next generation of medical providers gets a firsthand look at military healthcare at Irwin Army Community Hospital. FORT RILEY, Kansas — IACH is expanding its clinical education mission by hosting physician assistant students from Kansas State University for the first time, exposing them to a "mission-focused" approach to medicine that prioritizes Soldier readiness.

$In February 2026, Irwin Army Community Hospital installed a new CT scanner delivering one of the most important advances in medical imaging: clearer images with less radiation exposure. CT imaging is used in diagnosing many of the injuries commonly seen in the Fort Riley military population, including complex fractures, head injuries, spinal trauma, and internal bleeding.$

Modern Imaging, Safer Care

FORT RILEY, Kansas — IACH has taken another step forward in modernizing patient care with the installation of a new CT scanner. The upgrade delivers one of the most important advances in the field: better imagery with less radiation exposure.

Master Sgt. Dawn Ho, a long-serving member of the Kansas Army National Guard, overcame a career-threatening injury and the deep sense of failure that followed by finding a new purpose during her recovery. Through her own perseverance and the dedicated support of her leadership and the Soldier Recovery Unit, she successfully transitioned to a new career field and earned a prestigious selection to the Sergeants Major Academy.

$A podiatrist at Irwin Army Community Hospital applies 2,500 low-intensity soundwave pulses designed to stimulate blood flow, reduce inflammation, and encourage bone regeneration to a patient who suffered a fifth metatarsal avulsion fracture, a painful injury caused when a ligament pulled part of the bone away after he stepped into a pothole during a run.$

First Soldier to Benefit from IACH's Shockwave Therapy

FORT RILEY, Kansas — A Soldier with the 1st Infantry Division became the first patient to receive shockwave therapy at Irwin Army Community Hospital and he is already reporting relief from chronic pain that once limited his mobility.

Fort Riley's Public Health Department has achieved another historic milestone, becoming the first in the Department of Defense to earn re-accreditation through the Public Health Accreditation Board. The re-accreditation became effective August 28, 2025, cementing the team’s position as a trailblazer in military public health standards.

FORT RILEY, Kansas — Fort Riley's Public Health Department has achieved another historic milestone, becoming the first in the Department of Defense to earn re-accreditation through the Public Health Accreditation Board

The Virtually Integrated Patient Readiness and Remote (VIPRR) care clinic is an urgent care alternative for TRICARE Prime beneficiaries age 12 and older. VIPRR connects patients to credentialed military health providers through the MHS Nurse Advice Line (NAL) at 1-800-TRICARE or by visiting mhsnurseadviceline.com. It’s designed to help patients in communities like Fort Riley where access to in-person appointments may be limited.

New Virtual Option for Urgent Care

FORT RILEY, Kansas — A new virtual clinic for urgent care is now available for TRICARE Prime beneficiaries age 12 and older. VIPRR connects patients to credentialed military health providers through the MHS Nurse Advice Line. It’s designed to help patients in communities like Fort Riley where access to in-person appointments may be limited.

Effective Nov. 3, 2025, all patients visiting specialty care clinics located on the 2nd floor of Irwin Army Community Hospital will check in at the OB/GYN & Well Women’s Clinic front desk. This consolidation is part of an ongoing effort to optimize staff resources.

The change affects patients visiting the following clinics:

• Orthopedics
• Podiatry
• Brace Shop
• Optometry
• Ophthalmology
• Audiology
• General Surgery
• OB/GYN & Well Women

Ambulatory Surgery and Oral Surgery will continue checking in patients at their respective locations.

Patients are encouraged to arrive 15 minutes before their appointment to allow adequate time for check-in and reduce delays.

Fifteen months of persistence paid off Sept. 5 as Dr. Scott Saxe, IACH podiatrist, stood with hospital leaders and logisticians to welcome the long-awaited DUOLITH SD1 shockwave therapy device. Imported from Switzerland, this state-of-the-art system gives Soldiers and families a powerful new option for treating stubborn injuries such as plantar fasciitis—right here at Fort Riley.
