While water service has been restored inside Irwin Army Community Hospital, the water is currently not potable. This advisory is in effect due to a boil water notice. Outpatient care and services remain available to all patients.

We are actively working to address this situation and will provide updates as soon as new information becomes available.

IACH Updates for Nov. 3

By Jorge Gomez

1.            Labor & Delivery services will be limited to outpatient triage over Veteran’s Day weekend Nov. 11-14. If you are an obstetrics patient after 20 weeks gestation and have a pregnancy-related emergency (symptoms of active labor, concerned for your water breaking, vaginal bleeding, decreased fetal movement), call IACH Labor and Delivery at (785) 239-7164. You will be given further instructions as to whether to come to IACH for your emergent evaluation or to seek care at the closest outlying hospital based on your unique situation. If you feel as though you have an immediate emergency, please call 9-1-1.  We appreciate your understanding during this unexpected event and are working to get it resolved as soon as possible. Your safety is our utmost priority.

2.            Prioritize Self-Care  Life and work kept Susie Mosier from getting a mammogram. It took the persistence of another nurse to get her to schedule the procedure. The results of the mammogram would change Susie's life – and priority for self-care. Facebook: https://fb.watch/gzEF8esgtU/  YouTube: https://youtu.be/J8gNoTHmpxM

3.            Private Practice vs IACH Medicine  Increasing cash flow and reducing overhead are factors in patient care for private-practicing doctors. Dr. Jeffery Long is an IACH OB/GYN who practiced in the civilian sector before joining Irwin Army Community Hospital. For him, IACH frees him up to do what he originally signed up for – providing what’s best for a patient. Facebook: https://fb.watch/gzFavlnNz2/  YouTube: https://fb.watch/gzFavlnNz2/

4.            The next community flu vaccine event for TRICARE beneficiaries (family members ages 6 months+) is Nov 9, 2-6 p.m. Forsyth East School Age Center, 2420 H St, Fort Riley. Minors must have a legal guardian present to receive a flu vaccine. Active duty will be vaccinated by their unit.

5.            IACH Pharmacy will be closed Nov. 14 to conduct staff training. These dates are associated with a holiday weekend resulting in a four-day closure. Patients should expect longer wait times prior to and after these four-day closures. Refill pickup will only be available via Script Center for qualifying medications on those dates. Please plan accordingly.

6.            TRICARE Open Season runs Nov. 14 through Dec. 13. Now’s the time to review your and your family member’s current health plans, consider your needs for 2023, and learn about your coverage choices. Visit www.tricare.mil/openseason for details. If you’re eligible to take part in TRICARE Open Season, you have three choices:

*             Stay in your plan.
*             Change plans.
*             Enroll in a plan.

Enrollment changes made during TRICARE Open Season will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2023.
