IACH Adjusts Operations Following Equipment Failure

By Jorge Gomez

Irwin Army Community Hospital is adjusting operations after a recent storm caused damage to equipment, resulting in a loss of air conditioning in portions of the facility. The outage has created warmer temperatures and higher humidity levels in several areas of the hospital. Rising humidity has caused condensation on equipment, counters, and some floor surfaces, increasing potential safety hazards. Patients and visitors are advised to use caution when entering the facility, as some floors may be slippery. The situation is expected to remain in effect for the next 48 hours.

Adjustments to Services
  • Primary Care (PCMH): Patients with scheduled appointments will be contacted to reschedule or offered a virtual health visit.
  • Emergency Department & Labor and Delivery: Both remain fully open and operational.
  • Pharmacy: Patients are encouraged to use Q-Anywhere (see below for details) to activate prescriptions and pick up medications once ready. Waiting in the pharmacy lobby is not advised due to elevated heat and humidity. The Farrelly Health Clinic pharmacy remains fully available to Active Duty Soldiers.
  • Dining Facility: The IACH Cafeteria will operate on reduced availability. Community members who routinely dine at the hospital are encouraged to seek alternate dining options while IACH works to control foot traffic.
  • Laboratory Services: Patients who require routine lab work are asked to postpone until next week, when safer conditions are expected. SCMH Farrelly Health Clinic phlebotomy hours are extended to 3:30 p.m. through Friday, Aug. 22. Normal hours are 7 – 11:30 a.m.
  • Physical and Occupational Therapy: Patients with appointments this week may receive calls to reschedule.
  • Radiology: Elective imaging appointments will be rescheduled.

Safety Reminder
Patients and staff are reminded to exercise caution while inside the facility, as condensation may cause slippery surfaces in some areas. IACH is working diligently to restore full climate control systems as quickly as possible.

What is Q-Anywhere?
Q-Anywhere is a virtual queuing system that allows patients to activate their prescriptions without stepping into the pharmacy. Activate your prescription online right after your appointment and then visit the Express Window — no need to pull a ticket or wait in the lobby. Q-Anywhere is available Monday - Friday, 5 a.m. - 3 p.m., for new prescriptions and renewals entered within the last 7 days. Requests will be ready after 10 a.m. the next business day. For prescriptions older than 7 days, you'll need to activate them in person at the pharmacy during business hours (8:30 a.m. - 4:15 p.m.). For refills, continue to use the MHS GENESIS Patient Portal or the AudioCare number on your prescription bottle. For urgent needs, please come to the pharmacy and pull a ticket.
