School Mental Health

SMH provides comprehensive mental health services to support military children and their families on Fort Riley schools. The program emphasizes a public health model, coordinating a continuum of care from prevention, through early intervention, to mental health treatment.

School Mental Health services are directed at improving academic achievement, maximizing wellness and resilience of Army children and families, and ultimately promoting optimal military readiness. The SMH program serves as both a referral source and entry point for the Primary Care Managers and the CAFMHS mental health specialty provider team. The intent is to connect children, family members, and Soldiers to the right professional service.

SBH providers serve in most of the Fort Riley schools. Below are the schools that house at least one SMH provider weekly (when school is in session).

  • Seitz Elementary
  • Ware Elementary
  • Fort Riley Elementary
  • Fort Riley Middle School

School Mental Health services include individual therapy, family therapy, Parent Child Interactive Therapy (PCIT), collaboration/coordination with school staff regarding on-going care of the patient, educational and therapy groups, teacher and parent education, mental health evaluation and diagnosis, and communication with military medical services.
