Biography

COL Laudino M. Castillo-Rojas

IACH Commander

COL Laudino Castillo Rojas was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and is a Fellow of the American College of Physician and Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He completed his undergraduate work at Bunker Hill Community College with an Associate of Science in Radiation Health Science, and completed a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology at the University of Massachusetts. He received his medical degree from Ponce School of Medicine in Puerto Rico, and later completed a residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease at Brooke Army Medical Center/San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium. He also received his Master of Strategic Study degree from the Army War College in 2021.
His most recent assignment was the Command Surgeon for 21st Theater Sustainment Command at Panzer Kaserne, Germany (2022-2024). He served as the Chief of the Department of Medicine at Brooke Army Medical Center (2020-2022), Chief of Cardiology at Brooke Army Medical Center (2018-2020), Deputy Chief of Medicine Service at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center (2016-2018), Brigade Surgeon for the 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division (2013-2015), Associate Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at William Beaumont Army Medical Center (2011-2013) and as the Chief of Residents for the Internal Medicine Residency at Brooke Army Medical Center (2007-2008). He is Assistant Professor of Medicine at USUHS.

He initiated his military career enlisting in the Massachusetts Army National Guard in 1984, and served as a staff sergeant, infantry squad leader and after commissioning as a second lieutenant from the Massachusetts Military Academy in the Medical Service Corps in 1992, he served as medical platoon leader and detachment commander. He deployed to Operation Enduring Freedom as a squadron surgeon with the 25th Infantry Division in Nangahar Province, Afghanistan in 2011. He was the surgeon for Task Force Eagle at Fort Lee, Virginia, in support of Operation Allies Welcome in 2021.

His military awards include Order of Military Medical Merit, the ‘A’ Proficiency Designator in Cardiovascular Disease, Combat Medical Badge, Air Assault Badge, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters, Army Commendation medal with one oak leaf cluster, Army Achievement Medal, and German Armed Forces badge for Military Proficiency - Silver. He has also been recognized with a myriad of academic and teaching awards such as the Ponce School of Medicine Internal Medicine Excellence Award, BAMC Senior Resident Teacher of the Year, BAMC Staff Excellence Teacher of the Year Award, the Arnold P. Gold Foundation Excellence in Teaching Award, the BAMC Fellow Teacher of the Year Award and the Melvin D. Cheitlin Original Research Award.

Please be informed that Farrelly Health Clinic ancillary services will be consolidated at Irwin Army Community Hospital on Friday, August 30th, due to the 1st Infantry Division's Day of No Significant Activity (DONSA). Outpatient appointments, including physical and occupational therapy, will continue as scheduled at Farrelly Health Clinic.
 
All outpatient clinics and ancillary services at Irwin Army Community Hospital and outlying clinics will be closed on Monday, September 2nd, in observance of Labor Day
